European Green Deal: Horizon 2020 call opened
On September 18, 2020, the European Commission opens a call for proposals on topics related to the European Green Deal. The call for proposals has a total budget of 1 billion euros and supports research and innovation projects in eight thematic areas that correspond to the central working areas of the European Green Deal:
- Increasing climate ambition
- Clean, affordable and secure energy
- Industry for a clean and circular economy
- Energy and resource efficient buildings
- Sustainable and smart mobility
- Farm to fork
- Biodiversity and ecosystems
- Zero-pollution, toxic-free environments
In addition, project proposals are invited in two horizontal areas with a longer-term perspective:
- Strengthening our knowledge in support of the European Green Deal
- Empowering citizens for the transition towards a climate neutral, sustainable Europe
The submission deadline is January 26, 2021, and the projects selected for funding are expected to start in the fall of 2021. Proposals are registered and submitted via the Funding & Tenders Portal, where you can also find the indiviual calls.
The EU Commission emphasizes that this call for proposals clearly stands out from the other Horizon 2020 calls. The topics of the call are seen as urgent challenges; in addition, the call is expected to contribute to Europe's recovery from the corona crisis.
